Lauren Morsley

Lauren Morsley is an Illustrator and Printmaker from Scotland. She specialises in bold and colourful designs which create other worlds to explore. Her work is often inspired by intriguing stories, places, and people.

Tell us about yourself!

I have always been creative and drawn regularly throughout my life. I grew up with a creative family and so having that as an outlet and skill has been encouraged from an early age. However, I never really saw it as something I wanted to do for a living until the last few years of highschool. Then once I decided that Illustration was a path I wanted to pursue, I felt incredibly lucky to have the support and belief of my parents that I could make it work as a career. As I know that’s not everyone's experience. I find art, in particular illustration, the only way I can truly convey what I want to say or how I feel. It allows me to be completely free and create other worlds.

Bold, Colourful, Imaginative

Where do you work?

I am currently working from my studio space that is my bedroom too haha. I am looking to move soon, and have a spare room that I can turn into a home studio. Or if there is a co-working studio near wherever I end up moving, I might consider that too as it gets lonely just working by yourself. Either way I’m looking forward to having more space for my work and ease my work/life balance!

What do you get up to when you aren’t illustrating or designing?
I love to cook and bake, meet up with friends, play music and travel. I also live near a lot of beaches and woodlands here on the east coast of Scotland, so I always try to be out in nature as much as I can. I have also been incorporating travel with work a bit more in the last year, and that’s been nice to do both together.

Most frequently played tune in the studio?
My music taste is pretty all over the place. I grew up playing different instruments and my mood can be really affected by it. So I don’t really have any specific playlists, genre or artist that I always play, I tend to go by what I’m feeling at that moment. However, recently I have been playing music by DJo, Cher, Fleetwood Mac and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. Don’t know what that really says about my mood at the moment but maybe I should put together some playlists!
