Tell us about you!
I am an award-winning illustrator and ceramics artist living in Norwich. I have illustrated my first book in 2022 The Unofficial Guide to The Afterlife. I studied Textiles design, became a teacher and then embarked on a MA in Children's book illustration, which really help rejuvenate my work and help me get work with clients. I have always loved colour, pattern and bold shapes whether it be in illustration, ceramics or textile pieces. Being a maker is always who I have been, I have a deep sense of needing to create.
Where do you work?
I have a studio in my house, working on my illustrations and children’s books and I have a place at a local pottery studio to work on my ceramics.
I love working from home as I have everything to hand and I can create whenever I want to. It’s also nice you can get cosy and have my cat for company. It is nice to have a separate space for the ceramics as this is very different way of working.
What do you get up to when you aren’t illustrating or designing?
I like to get outdoors for bike rides or walks, along the coast or near a river. Creatively I enjoy making my own clothes or working on some embroidery, I have just finished a king size patchwork quilt which has been a long term project. I also love cooking.
Most frequently played tune in the studio?
I find sometimes I need silence to work and enjoy the quiet atmosphere to concentrate. On other days I like music like Flume or First Aid Kit. If I am working on an easier aspect of work I can watch some movies in the background.
